Valley Stream buys industrial power washer

The Village of Valley Stream has a new state-of-the-art power washer to help keep the village clean, officials said.

The nearly $8,200 industrial-capacity equipment will be used by the Department of Public Works to remove graffiti, gum from sidewalks and bird droppings from the paths along the village’s Hendrickson and Barrett parks, Mayor Edwin Fare said. The apparatus can also remove chemical stains and will be used for general cleaning around the village and around the Long Island Rail Road's Valley Stream station, Fare said.

“We all deserve to live in a village that values cleanliness,” said Fare, who made the announcement Monday as part of the fulfillment of his campaign promise and initiative to get the village clean.

The power washer's reservoir holds 525 gallons of water, allowing it to be used anywhere. It can also be used to water landscaping, Fare said.
