Valley Stream village officials have announced a pilot project to expand the village’s cultural arts program, by transforming the village courtroom into a theater and presenting the first of what might be a series of live performances in Village Hall.

The comedy “X’s and O’s” will make its Valley Stream debut on June 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Hall Court, on 123 S. Central Ave. A second showing is scheduled for June 22, at 7:30 p.m. Funds raised from tickets — $15 in advance, $20 at the door, $10 for seniors 55 and over — will go toward Valley Stream’s summer concert series.

“By transforming our village courtroom into a theater, we are bringing a novel approach to raising funds for other cultural events here in Valley Stream,” Mayor Ed Fare said in a statement.

“X’s and O’s” is Long Island playwright John Blenn’s first play, originally staged in 1995, about fictitious former NFL star Marty O’Malley, who has four ex-wives and crippling alimony payments. O’Malley hatches a plan to sue the four ex-wives for an alimony “rebate” as a ploy to gain media attention.
