After serving his country in the Army for 27 years, Joseph A. Regina is now trying to serve his fellow veterans.

Regina, 63, is 2nd vice commander at the American Legion Sgt. John Sardiello Post 1634 in West Babylon, and he has organized a clothing drive for homeless veterans.

"I said to myself, 'I'm going to help them rebuild [their lives] every chance I get," said Regina.

So far, the clothing drive has collected 23 bags.

Post 1634 is collecting donations from 10 a.m. to noon every Saturday through April at the post’s 10 Bruce St. headquarters. Suzanne Regina, Joseph’s wife and the women’s auxiliary president for the post, came up with the idea after wanting to donate a bag of clothes herself.

"At Christmas time we gave toiletries," said Suzanne. "We thought to take it one step [further] and provide clothing."

Anyone wanting to donate clothing or other items can contact Joseph Regina at 631-422-5211.
