This year’s City of Long Beach Memorial Day Parade will be led by those who served in the Vietnam War.

For the past two years, the parade has been led by local veterans -- World War II veterans two years ago and Korean War vets last year.

“We want them to come out to march and be proud,” said John Radin Sr., a parade organizer. “We want people to applaud them.”

Any veterans looking to march can call Radin at 516-431-5192. Radin added that rides are available to those who want to participate but who cannot march.

“We felt it was their [Vietnam vets’] turn,” he said. “They seem to be the forgotten warriors of this country, and it’s about time.”
