Vila hurls and swings Pierson to victory
Colman Vila struck out five and allowed five hits as Pierson-Bridgehampton beat Southold, 7-1, in the deciding Game 3 of the Suffolk Class C championship series Tuesday.
Vila also had two hits and scored the game's first run off a single by Aaron Schiavoni. Paul Dorego went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Forrest Loesch had three hits and a run scored.
"Going into it, we needed a good game. It was win or go home and we came up when it mattered," Pierson-Bridgehampton coach Jonathan Torporella said.
Eastport-South Manor 7, Half Hollow Hills West 5: Ryan Gili struck out four and gave up no hits in 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for No. 3 Eastport-South Manor (23-3) in a Suffolk Class AA losers' bracket final. Mat Annunziata went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Anthony Annunziata had two hits and two RBIs and Andrew Karkota went 2-for-4 with two runs. ESM will play at No. 1 Connetquot for the Class AA championship at 4 p.m Wednesday. If ESM wins, it will force a second game against Connetquot Thursday.
Calhoun 8, MacArthur 2: Frank Trimarco struck out six, walked one, allowed six hits and no earned runs for Calhoun (21-3) in Game 1 of the Nassau Class AA championship series at Farmingdale State. Thomas Viverito went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Robbie Rosen had an RBI and a run and Zac Goldstein a hit and two runs in the win. Game 2 of the best-of-three finals is Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Farmingdale State.
