For the second year in a row, Bayville is banning bonfires, a longtime beach tradition during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Last year, the village saw few violations of the ban, which was enacted after a little girl was burned July 4, 2009, when a bonfire ignited a firecracker.

The village has also posted a fireworks safety advisory on its website, warning residents that “the possession, use, or sale of fireworks, including sparklers, is a violation of New York State Penal Law, and may be punishable as a misdemeanor or a felony,” and that parents should inform children about the dangers of fireworks.
