Colin Briggs and Chris Bocklet each scored two goals Sunday as host Virginia opened defense of its men's lacrosse national championship by beating Princeton, 6-5, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Cavaliers (12-3), who will face Notre Dame in Philadelphia in the second round, led 5-2 at halftime. Jeff Froccaro scored twice in the third quarter to pull Princeton (11-5) within a goal.

Maryland 10, Lehigh 9: Joe Cummings scored with six seconds left to lift visiting Maryland (10-5), which had fallen behind 8-6 after taking a 6-1 lead. Drew Snider had three goals and Owen Blye added a goal and four assists for the Terrapins and Kyle Stiefel had three goals for the Mountain Hawks (14-3). Lehigh goalie Matt Poillon (Mount Sinai) made 16 saves.

Notre Dame 13, Yale 7: Jim Marlatt had three goals and two assists for host Notre Dame (12-2).
