Volunteers needed for Edgewood cleanup

Volunteers are needed to help celebrate Earth Day by cleaning up the Edgewood Oak Brush Plain Preserve.
The Friends of the Edgewood Preserve is hosting its sixth annual Earth Day at the preserve on Saturday. The preserve is a state-owned, 850-acre nature preserve in the towns of Babylon, Huntington and Islip. Within the site are pine barrens vegetation, pitch pine and scrub oak as well as many species of wildlife.
The group invites volunteers to help maintain the preserve by sprucing up hiking trails and picking up litter from the parking lot. They will also be pulling weeds in preparation for planting.
Gloves, bags, and tools will be provided, but the group welcomes volunteers bringing their own pruners and gloves. Water and light snacks will be provided.
Volunteers are also needed to oversee sign-in and snack tables. Volunteers 15 and younger must have a parent or guardian fill out a permission form.
The raindate for the event is April 30.
