Hempstead Town’s Department of Senior Enrichment is seeking volunteers to help senior citizens file their annual income tax returns; the deadline for volunteer sign-up is Monday.
The volunteers will help run the free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which is offered in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service.
No experience is required for prospective volunteers since they would undergo a training program, town officials said.
Volunteers will be required to work a minimum of three daytime hours per week during the 10-week program that runs from February to the April 15 filing deadline.
Once trained, volunteers will be assigned to local libraries and senior centers, officials said.
For more information, call the Department of Senior Enrichment at 516-485-8100, ext. 274.
