Residents of South Lynbrook and Hewlett will vote on a proposed library contract and budget in a special election on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

The South Lynbrook-Hewlett Library District’s contract with Lynbrook Public Library expires Dec. 31. The proposed five-year contract with Lynbrook Public Library would have a first year annual cost of $90,070, and the cost would increase annually, Hempstead Town officials said.

“As the current contract with Lynbrook Public Library will expire on Dec. 31, 2013, New York State law requires that a special election be held to consider a new contract and associated budget with a host library,” Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray said in a statement.

The vote is restricted to registered voters who live in the South Lynbrook-Hewlett Library District.

Voting will take place from noon to 9 p.m. at the South Lynbrook Middle School, 333 Union Ave. in Lynbrook. Absentee ballots are available from Hempstead Deputy Town Attorney Eugene Ferencik’s office at 516-489-5000, extension 3202.
