VSN track having success year-round

It's not quite the Triple Crown of horse racing, but the Valley Stream North boys track program is poised to complete a three-season sweep.

The Spartans captured the Nassau County Class B cross- country title in the fall and followed that up with the indoor "B" championship.

VSN recently completed its sixth straight undefeated outdoor league season.

With a deep and experienced squad led by an upper classmen-dominated distance crew of Joe Rossi, Chris Edouard, Visal Mohanan, Thomas Bardabelias, Sam Catalano and Zach Bugge and several quality athletes in field events, the Spartans are heading in the right direction.

"It's nice to have so many excellent distance runners on one team," Spartans coach Michael Frazer said. "They've become interchangeable and they don't have to run the same event every meet. This keeps their legs fresh"

The Spartans also have talented throwers in Kendel Levy and Patrick Canny and hurdlers Joe Cafaro and Michele' Tripoli.

Valley Stream North's girls spring team has also had its share of succes.

Led by talented triple jumper Chell Burke and throwers Uzoamaka Aniagba, Betina Mondelice and Sarah Craig, the Spartans (14-0) finished their league season undefeated and have their eyes set on a county championship.
