The West Hempstead Community Support Association is holding a meeting Wednesday night about cost-saving initiatives available to school districts and municipalities, as well as a presentation for an apartment complex by a local developer.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of the West Hempstead Middle School (450 Nassau Blvd.). During the meeting, attendees will be able to ask questions and comment.

Robert Hanna, deputy superintendent of Nassau BOCES, and BOCES board member Martin Kaye will present a program about a 21st Century New York State Grant awarded in 2009 to seek ways to implement cost savings by sharing of initiatives within Nassau County.

Later in the meeting, developer Barry Leon and his partners will present a plan for Garden Apartments on Hempstead Gardens Drive. They are petitioning the Town of Hempstead to rezone the AVF Carting property from industrial to multifamily urban renewal development. The rezoning would permit the construction of garden apartments on the site.

The rezoning application will come before the Town of Hempstead Board on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 10:30 a.m., in the Nathan Bennett Pavilion in Hempstead Town Hall, 1 Washington St., in Hempstead.
