THE BUDGET

The district is proposing a budget of $3,557,175 for the 2010-2011 year, an increase of 7.07 percent over the current budget of $3,322,383. The tax levy would rise 0.73 percent, from the current $2,604,708 to $2,623,600 in 2010-11.

District officials said they are unable to estimate taxes on an average house, citing variations in the value of houses in the district and complications arising from the district's location in both East Hampton and Southampton.

Teachers have agreed to accept only step increases for the next two school years on the contract that expires in June. The district employs one full-time teaching assistant and that job would become a half-time position. No significant programs would be cut or added.
