Long Islanders may get a taste of summer this week, with temperatures forecast to approach 80 degrees.
Highs today will be in the mid to upper 60s, according to the National Weather Service, with temperatures climbing into the 70s on Tuesday.
Wednesday looks to be the warmest day this week, with highs in the mid 70s, John Murray, a meteorologist with the Weather Service said.
The rest of the week will continue to feel more like mid May than early April, Murray said.
A 30 percent chance of rain arrives Thursday afternoon or evening, he said, and highs will be in the upper 50s to 60 on Friday and Saturday.
Sunday's blue skies and warm temperatures had Long Island weather watchers logging new highs in their books.
Murray said Islip reached a high of 75, beating the previous April 4 record of 66 set in 1997. Islip records go back to 1986.
In Bridgehampton, weather watcher Richard Hendrickson, who has recorded data since 1930, reported a high of 72. That easily tops the previous high of 63 Hendrickson recorded in 1997.
