Watchdog: Halesite residents get new traffic sign

Residents of the Halesite section of Huntington got a new sign, though it's not the one they wanted.
The state installed a "Cross Traffic Does Not Stop" warning at the end of Cliftwood Drive where it meets Park Avenue 11 days after removing a stop sign on another corner.
The new sign replaced a cardboard warning residents had taped up immediately after they learned the stop sign had been removed. The intersection had been an all-way stop since the 1990s and residents say the neighborhood was not given notice that the sign would be removed. They want it back.
The sign was gone on May 16, and residents were stymied when they tried to find out why and if the removal was temporary, the result of construction that's part of the state's Route 110 redesign project, which includes a nearby traffic roundabout. In response to Watchdog's inquiries, the state Department of Transportation said the removal is regarded as permanent.
