Drivers in Suffolk should be extra cautious during the morning commute because of black ice, the National Weather Service said Tuesday.

The service's Upton office released a special weather statement for most of Suffolk County, warning drivers of refreezing snowmelt "overnight into early Tuesday morning, resulting in patchy black ice."

The service said slippery surfaces are possible and commuters "early Tuesday morning should proceed with extra caution."
