Chilly fall temps start a damp week on LI

Sunday kicked off the start of a chilly, wet week on Long Island with lows in the 30s.

Sunday's forecast called for clouds, temperatures in the mid-50s during the day and overnight lows in the upper-30s for most communities, according to the National Weather Service in Upton. It will be windy as well, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph with wind chills between 35 and 45 degrees, the service said.

There is a frost warning for Long Island and New York City beginning Sunday night from midnight to 8 a.m. Monday.

The cool weather is expected to last through the week, with rain arriving Monday night. There is at least a 50 percent chance of showers Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with a lesser chance for Friday before clearing up for the weekend, the service said.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the 50s and low 60s through the week.
