Rip current risk, minor tidal flooding possible on South Shore

A rip current risk remains in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday for the South Shore, where there's also the possibility for minor tidal flooding near the times of high tide, the National Weather Service said.
On Thursday, an approaching cold front brings about a 30 percent to 40 percent chance of rain on Long Island, with the best chances after 6 p.m., said Joe Pollina, weather service meteorologist based in Upton.
If the scattered rainfall does arrive, it could be moderate to heavy, dropping from a quarter to half an inch, and tapering off late at night, he said.
Temperatures are expected to be in the lower 80s, with upper 70s on the East End, with more humid conditions, he said.
Look for Friday to be a fall-like day, with dry skies, temperatures in the lower 70s and lower humidity, he said.
