After unusually warm temperatures earlier this month, the next few days are going to feel a bit chillier than normal on Long Island, forecasters said.
A high in the mid-40s marked Monday afternoon and Monday night will be clear and in the mid-30s, the National Weather Service said, along with cool breezes of about 10 to 15 mph.
Tuesday, those breezes continue amid a sunny day with the high of 50 degrees. But temperatures then drop to freezing, with a chance for patchy frost in some places that lasts through Wednesday morning, forecasters said.
Thursday's temperatures and sunny skies provide a warmup of a high in the mid-60s but showers are considered likely Thursday evening with a low of 40 degrees, the weather service said.
After the midweek warmup, a cold front sweeps in Thursday that may bring some thunderstorms. "Brief heavy rain and gusty winds will be possible," the weather service said, possibly lasting into Friday morning.
Friday afternoon should also be sunny but again, temperatures drop at night to freezing and Saturday's high will be in the mid-40s, forecasters said.
Sunday will be a bit warmer — the daytime high should hit 55 — although, the weather service said, the "next chance of rain arrives Sunday with the approach of another system from the west."
