With temperatures expected to be in the 90s again Thursday and no break from the heat until late Friday, Long Islanders will be searching for ways to cool off.

For those without air-conditioning or swimming pools, that can be difficult.

Both Suffolk and Nassau counties have several cooling centers available, and hours of operation of some public pools in Nassau will be extended to 7 p.m. or 8 p.m., officials said. In addition, Long Beach announced that its lifeguards will be on duty from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday "in anticipation of extremely high temperatures and rough tides."
