With an expectation for a high level of ozone in the air, an air quality alert has been issued for Tuesday on Long Island from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The health advisory was issued by the state Department of Environmental Conservation and was relayed by the National Weather Service.

The ground level ozone level is expected to be greater than an air quality index value of 100, with the higher the value, "the greater the health concern," according to the DEC.

At such times, state health officials advise people to limit strenuous outdoor activities, with the very young and people with pre-existing respiratory conditions especially at risk.
