Dry, sunny week in store for LI

Long Island looks to stay in a dry, sunny weather pattern this week, with some higher-than-average temperatures providing a midweek warm-up, according to the National Weather Service.

There will be virtually no chance of rain this week for most of the island, though a slight chance is forecast for the far East End Monday night, said Lauren Nash, meteorologist for the service.

Otherwise, lawns may need watering as the area is 1.49 inches below the normal amount of rainfall for the month. Nash said. The last time it rained, Sept. 22, just 6/100s of an inch fell in Islip and as of Sunday, just 1.83 inches of rain had fallen for the month, she said.

Still, temperatures will be delightfully warm. While the average high temperature this time of year is about 68 degrees, highs Sunday and Monday will be about 70 degrees, rising to the mid 70s Tuesday and high 70s Wednesday. Lows will be in the mid-50s all week.

"It will be mostly clear and sunny during the day," said Nash.

The next chance for rain won't be until Saturday, she said.
