First snowflakes may arrive next week

Temperatures are expected to drop over the next few days, with talk of snow coming as soon as midweek.

A cold front from the northwest is expected to approach the area Monday night into Tuesday, said Joe Pollina, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton.

The recent high temperatures of 50s will soon become high temperatures of 40s. Low temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-20s. Normal high temperatures for this time of year are in the mid-50s, Pollina said.

But the cold doesn't necessarily mean we'll see the first signs of winter.

"We are expecting colder temperatures Wednesday and Thursday, but by Friday we'll be able to rebound close to normal again," Pollina said.

There's about a 30 percent chance of precipitation on Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather service is predicting. If temperatures are low enough, that could mean the first snowflakes of the season.

Seasonable weather will continue Saturday night and Sunday, however, with high temperatures in the upper 50s on Sunday.

While it will be mostly sunny Sunday through Monday night, 25- to 30-mph wind from the northwest are expected on Sunday, Pollina said.
