Areas of dense fog and early morning bands of showers, thunderstorms and driving rain could create hazardous conditions Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

A dense fog advisory issued by the weather service will remain in effect for Nassau and Suffolk until 9 a.m. The advisory warns drivers to "slow down" and use caution -- in case a sudden stop is needed.

Forecasters are also calling for areas of showers and thunderstorms before 10 a.m. The sun is expected to emerge later in the day, driving temperatures into the upper 70s.

Unfortunately, rain is expected again Wednesday night, though clear skies are on tap for the remainder of the week.

Highs are expected to be near 70 degrees with overnight lows dipping into the low to mid 50s, forecasters said.
