Fog creates hazardous travel conditions
Early-morning fog has created hazardous driving conditions Tuesday morning in Nassau and Suffolk, the National Weather Service said.
In a special weather statement issued at 5:24 a.m. the service warned of reduced visibility and areas of dense fog.
That fog will persist until a cold front passes through the region later in the morning, the weather service said.
Then, forecasters said, the early-morning fog and rain will give way to rain and snow.
Expected winds to also become howling as the day wears on with early-morning breezes of between 6 and 9 mph increading to between 22 and 25 mph — with gusts as high as 39 mph, forecasters said.
However, with temperatures hovering above the freezing mark Long Island can expect little if no accumulation of snow.
