Forecast: Chance of showers into Sunday night on Long Island
A chance of showers and gusty winds Sunday night could help cool off a muggy day ahead of better weather, according to the National Weather Service.
Long Islanders could see a “brief period of heavy rain and gusty winds” at some point between about 6 and 11 p.m. as there are “increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms” into the evening, said John Murray, a meteorologist at the weather service’s Upton bureau.
A rip current advisory is in effect along the South Shore from Smith Point to Montauk through 9 p.m.
The chance of rain will diminish after about 11 p.m., except for “some chance of showers and thunderstorms for the Twin Forks,” Murray said.
A high of 80 is expected Monday with lots of sunshine and lower humidity, due in part to wind coming from the northwest.
Tuesday should see clear skies with highs in the mid- to upper 70s. Rain could come back into the forecast Wednesday night into Thursday night.
Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast for Friday with a high of 85.
