Forecast: Cold, but no major snowfall this weekend

The Long Island region is expected to avoid significant snowfall this weekend but must deal with subfreezing temperatures.
Saturday's forecast calls for dry conditions, although area residents could see some light flurries late Sunday evening, potentially 1 to 2 inches, said Joey Picca, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton.
"This will be a relatively minor event," Picca said.
But residents such as Regina Schlackman, 81, of Lynbrook, complained about the difficulty of navigating the cold and ice-laden sidewalks, particularly for senior citizens. Schlackman said she has struggled to reach bus stops because sidewalks have not been cleared.
The temperature in Westhampton Beach on Saturday morning was 8 degrees, Picca said. Most of the region woke up to temperatures in the upper teens.
Saturday's forecast calls for temperatures to reach the upper 20s to lower 30s, Picca said.
