Forecast: Dusting of snow on Long Island

Areas of Long Island may see flurries and brief, light snow showers Friday morning, as a low pressure system passes to the south and east, the National Weather Service says.

"The entire Island could see a dusting," with a possible half-inch of snow accumulating on the South Fork, said Joe Pollina, weather service meteorologist in Upton.

Rain, with a chance of snow mixed in, is expected to start Thursday in between 8 and 10 p.m., turn to snow or possible flurries by midnight, and in most areas clearing out by 6 a.m. Friday, said Mike Layer, also a meteorologist in Upton.

Look for high temperatures in the low- to mid-30s on Friday, he said -- about 10 degrees cooler than Thursday.
