April showers are arriving a little early on Long Island, it seems.

The National Weather Service said there is "potential for 2 to 3 inches of rainfall," from later Saturday into Monday morning, "with locally higher amounts possible."

"The heaviest rainfall is expected from Saturday night into Sunday morning," according to a hazardous weather outlook issued early Saturday by the service.

The service said that because Long Island "has been very dry of late," minor urban flooding of poor drainage and low-lying areas is possible.

There's "a small chance" of more significant, widespread flooding Saturday night into Sunday, the service said.

Nassau County and western Suffolk are considered "abnormally dry" by the U.S. Drought Monitor.

With light rain falling on Long Island Saturday morning, the heaviest showers are expected to begin between noon and 1 p.m. The forecast also calls for temperatures in the high 40s, according to the weather service.

On Sunday, with more rain in the forecast, temperatures are expected to be near 50.
