Forecast: LI can expect above normal temps for next 10 days
Welcome to the first full week of the new year, and a 10-day spell of warmer-than-average weather, according to the National Weather Service.
Monday's temperature in Islip is likely to max out around 45 degrees, said Brian Ciemnecki, meteorologist with the service in Upton.
As a high pressure area to the southwest moves offshore Monday night, "winds will shift around and become southerly," he said, resulting in higher-than-normal, but not record-breaking temperatures, in the coming days.
Look for highs of 45 on Tuesday, 48 on Wednesday, 45 on Thursday and the low 50s on the weekend, with slightly cooler temperatures on the South Shore, said Tim Morrin, also a meteorologist in Upton.
"The general theme is for above normal" for the next 10 days, Morrin said, this at a time of year when temperatures average in the upper 30s, near 40.
Apart for possible showers Friday, conditions for the coming days "should be dry and mostly sunny -- good days get outside," Ciemnecki said.
