Overcast skies will have Tuesday on Long Island looking and feeling much like Monday, with light winds and above-average temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

Clouds likely will stick around at least through Wednesday night, as will the warmer-than-normal highs, which topped out Monday in the mid-70s.

Thursday will be mostly sunny.

And the weekend, at least right now, looks like it could include rain, with Saturday’s odds of showers estimated at 30% and Sunday’s at 40%, the weather service said.

Temperatures will remain unseasonably warm through Saturday, rising into the low to mid-70s during the day, before retreating to the low 60s and upper 50s at night.

The average high for this time of year is 67; the low is 53, according to the weather service’s records for Islip that start in 1963.

Long Islanders on Tuesday may see some sun, but "there is the chance that some extensive stratus develops Tuesday night and lasts thru Wednesday putting a lid on high (temperature) potential," the weather service said, referring to the kind of patchy clouds that appear low, gray and have a "fairly uniform base."

Tuesday night brings a 30% chance of drizzle or light rain with a low of 59. The cloud cover is forecast to decrease Wednesday with a high of 73 and an overnight low of 60.

Fog is possible both Tuesday and Wednesday nights, according to the weather service.

By Thursday and Friday, "high temperatures are expected to be 10-15 degrees above normal, both days, with Friday being the warmer of the two," the weather service said, adding that while neither day likely will set a record, Friday’s high could be just five degrees short of the record of 81.

The potential for showers Saturday could linger into Sunday morning.

"Otherwise," the weather service said, referring to Sunday, "it`s likely a dry day with highs cooler than the previous few days, but still a little warmer than normal."
