Forecast: Unseasonable warmth continues on LI, then a cooler weekend
Overnight temperatures will stay unseasonably warm, ushering in a Thursday that could hit a high of more than 60 degrees, the National Weather Service said.
Light rain is also expected overnight but then conditions will clear for Thursday and the sun will take over, the weather service said. It will be windy, however, with gusts up to 25 mph.
Then, after another mild and possibly damp overnight, Friday will be a similar weather day, with sunshine and a peak temperature in the high 50s, forecasters said.
This week's temperatures are up to 20 degrees higher than what is normally seen in a typical mid-December, less than a week before winter officially arrives on the 21st.
Friday night’s rain should hold off until about 4 a.m. but after that may be hard to avoid, as the chances are 60%, the weather service estimated.
Then the weekend looks to be seasonably cooler but damp on Saturday, when the chances of rain are 80% with a daytime high of 45 degrees.
Downpours probably will continue until around 1 a.m. or so on Sunday. The day should be sunny and quite a bit cooler, with the high topping out around 42, the weather service said.
Sunday night will be cold, however, with a low in the mid 20s, the weather service said.
Both Monday and Tuesday should be at least partly sunny, with similar daytime highs in the 40s.
