Forecast: Mostly rain for Long Island this weekend
A strengthening coastal low is expected to bring "mostly rain" to Long Island this weekend, with the heaviest rainfall during the day on Saturday, the National Weather Service said.
The weather service issued a hazardous weather outlook statement, warning that there could be "significant precipitation."
"Really it's just going to be a rain event," said meteorologist David Stark, adding he is "pretty confident in the scenario for Long Island."
Stark said Long Island could see 1 inch to 1 1/2 inches.
The precipitation may begin as light snow Friday night and quickly change to rain early Saturday, Stark said. No accumulation is expected.
The heaviest precipitation will be after sunrise Saturday through Saturday night, tapering off around midnight Sunday, Stark said.
