Sunny and highs in the 60s.

That's the forecast for the next two days, according to the National Weather Service.

The unusually warm temperatures for November will continue over Tuesday and Wednesday after a Monday in which the high was 65 degrees in Islip — well above the average of 56 degrees for this time of year, said Dominic Ramunni, a National Weather Service meteorologist based in Upton, citing records that began in 1963.

Nighttime temperatures this week should be relatively mild, mostly sticking to the low 40s, though they will briefly rise into the low 50s on Friday, the weather service said.

Thursday, however, brings a 40% chance of showers. Rain is also likely Friday and there is a 30% chance of showers Friday night.

The timing of the rain hinges on the track taken by a coastal storm system now stretching from northern California to Washington State.

Saturday should be partly sunny with a cooler high of about 58 degrees. Sunday should be sunny but cooler still, with a daytime high of 53 degrees.

The marine forecast, however, is stormier as a low pressure system swirling "a couple of hundred miles southeast of Cape Hatteras" is prompting high sea warnings, according to the National Hurricane Center.

That system, the National Hurricane Center said, should head east-northeastward, weaken and then strengthen, but still head out over the Atlantic’s open waters.
