This week's rain on Monday into Tuesday will be followed by some welcome mild temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday will be sunny and dry, with highs in the mid 50s, said Joey Picca, meteorologist with the service's Upton bureau. Lows on Sunday will drop into the 30s, with continued clear skies.

Monday will start out dry, with highs in the low to mid 50s across the island, Picca said. But a storm system approaching from the southwest will start drenching the area with about an inch of rain beginning Monday evening, he said. Lows on Monday will be in the mid to upper 40s.

The rain is expected to last overnight, with conditions drying out by midday Tuesday. Highs on Tuesday will be in the low to mid 60s, with lows on Tuesday around 40.

Wednesday will cool down slightly, with partly cloudy skies and highs in the low to mid 50s. Lows on Wednesday will be in the mid to upper 30s.

Thursday will also be in the 50s, with lows only dropping to the mid to upper 40s.

Friday will see a return to warmer weather, with highs around 60, and the potential of some light rain, Picca said.
