Monday on Long Island unfolds to be mostly warm and humid under partly sunny skies, the National Weather Service said. As of around noon, the temperature at Long Island MacArthur Airport was 83 degrees, with daily highs expected in the mid-80s.

Chances of scattered rain showers increase for the overnight hours into early Tuesday morning, said Tim Morrin, weather service meteorologist based in Upton. That means the possibility of wet roads for the morning commute.

In all, around a tenth of an inch to a third of an inch is possible for Long Island by Tuesday afternoon, he said.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said "some spotty wet weather" is likely over the next 36 hours but Long Island should have "more dry time than wet time" in that span.

Hoffman said skies will have a mix of sun and clouds and Monday could include a spot shower or storm.

Overnight, conditions are warm and muggy under mostly cloudy skies with lows in the 70s.

Tuesday shapes up to be a lot like Monday, but with a higher probability of precipitation.

Daily highs Tuesday will again be in the low 80s.

"A few showers and storms but not a washout," Hoffman said of Tuesday.
