With "a really nice weekend" on the horizon, the area might first have to get through "a brief window" Friday evening of scattered showers, in some spots possibly brief downpours and isolated thunderstorms, said David Stark, National Weather Service meteorologist based in Upton.
In addition, there's a small chance that some isolated areas could see small, pea-sized hail, thanks in part to colder air in the middle and upper atmosphere, he said. Such hail in spring, even in summer months, is "not really unusual," he said.
The weather service said there's a 30 percent to 40 percent chance of rain Friday through around midnight.
Saturday is expected to be partly cloudy and Sunday mostly sunny, Stark said, with high temperatures both days in the low 70s.
