Snow may be heading our way Wednesday morning -- just in time for the morning commute -- but this time there'll be no need for plowing.

Light snow is expected to develop before daybreak Wednesday, moving from west to east, dropping around an inch, said the National Weather Service. It's "not a major event," said Brian Ciemnecki, a weather service meteorologist in Upton.

Still, drivers are advised to "watch for some slick roads during the morning commute where snow showers do occur," the service said in a Facebook post.

There may be "relatively short bursts of heavy snow," especially from around 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., the service said. And that could mean visibility reduced to half a mile, said Joe Pollina, also a weather service meteorologist in Upton.

The showers are expected to end by late morning or early afternoon.

The coming days bring two more possible occasions for snow -- Saturday and Sunday night into Monday, but Ciemnecki said it's too early for specifics to be pinned down. They're something to "keep an eye on," he said.

Temperatures this week are on track to be well below the normal high of 42 to 43 degrees, forecasters said. The late Tuesday morning temperature at Long Island MacArthur Airport was 30 degrees, with an expected overnight low of around 20, the service said.

Wednesday's highs are expected to be in the lower 30s, with lows in the teens, with Thursday seeing much the same, though temperatures could move into the mid-30s, Ciemnecki said.

Plan to bundle up on Friday when highs are forecast to dip to the mid-to-upper 20s, again with lows in the teens, he said.
