Ready or not, more wet weather is headed our way this week.

Sunday will be a sunny respite from the recent spate of soggy weather, but expect Monday and possibly Tuesday to bring showers and thunderstorms to Long Island, according to Mike Layer, meteorologist in the National Weather Service's Upton bureau.

Sunday will feature mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 70s, nearing 80 in the western portions of Long Island.

Monday will be cooler, with highs in the low to mid-70s. Expect showers and thunderstorms by late morning, continuing throughout the day, Layer said. Lows on Monday will be in the low to mid-60s.

Showers could continue into Tuesday, which will also feature temperatures similar to Monday.

Dry weather is expected on Wednesday, with partly to mostly cloudy skies and highs in the mid- to upper 70s. Lows on Wednesday night will be in the low 60s.

Clouds will linger into Thursday, which also brings with it a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, Layer said. Highs will be in the mid-70s, and lows will be in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Friday will be mostly dry, starting out cloudy, but clearing as the day goes on, Layer said. Highs will be in the mid-70s.

Layer said total rainfall at Long Island MacArthur Airport was measured at 4.92 inches for the month so far -- 3.61 inches above normal.
