Forecast: 'Very nice weekend' of warm temps in store

Long Islanders can expect warmer temperatures and dry skies this holiday weekend.

Saturday's forecast calls for temperatures in the lower to mid 60s -- a significant increase from recent days, said David Stark, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton.

And while temperatures will dip into the upper 30s Saturday night, they will spike back up into the upper 50s for Easter Sunday, Stark said.

"Overall, it's going to be a very nice weekend," he said.

The Weather Service said the earliest possible chance of rain would come on Tuesday.

But, Stark warns that the Island's relatively low humidity levels, combined with the dry ground and high wind gusts -- up to 25 miles per hour on Saturday afternoon -- also create conditions favorable for the rapid spread of brush fires.

The risk is expected to decline by Saturday evening as humidity levels increase and wind gusts begin to diminish.
