Long Island weather: Warm finale to unofficial end of summer

The unofficial end to summer will bring dry skies and warm temperatures in the 80s for Long Islanders through Labor Day, weather watchers say.
Saturday's forecast calls for highs of about 80 with temperatures dropping into the low 60s overnight, said Brian Ciemnecki, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton.
But the weather service advised visitors to Long Island beaches of a "moderate" risk of rip current through Saturday night, with the risk elevating to "high" on the east side of obstructions such as jetties and piers.
The weather service also issued a small craft advisory through noon Saturday, covering the Moriches Inlet to Montauk Point; Fire Island Inlet to Moriches Inlet; and Sandy Hook, New Jersey, to Fire Island Inlet.
Northeast winds from 15 to 20 knots with gusts to 30 knots are expected. Wave heights from 4 to 6 feet also are likely.
Sunday's forecast calls for a high in the low 80s and temperatures dropping into the mid 60s overnight.
Labor Day should bring more of the same with temperatures in the mid to high 80s.
