Temperatures for the arrival of the first week of autumn will be in the 70s, but with potential showers that could dampen conditions for the Ryder Cup, which starts this week at Bethpage State Park.

On Monday, the first day of autumn in the northern hemisphere, skies will be clear and the high will be around 74; overnight lows will be in the 60s. Tuesday will be warmer, with a high near 80, forecasters said.

Starting Tuesday, there will be "chances of rain each day" through the week, National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Ciemnecki said, though those chances will remain fairly low. On Tuesday, it’s a 30% chance of showers in the afternoon and a 50% chance of a thunderstorm during the night.

Wednesday’s high is expected to be about 77, and the overnight low about 60, with a lingering chance of showers. On Thursday, the temperature will be a bit cooler, with a high of 71, but the possibility of wet weather continues, with a 30% chance of rain. Overnight low will be about 60 again.

Showers are possible again on Friday, as the Ryder match is scheduled to start, and on Saturday, the chance of showers will be 40%.

The damp weather may not be welcome for golf enthusiasts, but Long Island has been drier than usual this month, according to NWS data.
