You know what they say about April and showers.

Well, we're getting a head start this final weekend of March as rain is heading this way Friday, Saturday and Sunday, forecasters say.

Look for light showers to start Friday morning; a respite Friday night; on-and-off light rain showers Saturday; and "steadier and heavier" rain Saturday night into Sunday, said Joe Pollina, National Weather Service meteorologist in Upton.

Still, the possible 1 3/4 to 2 1/4 inches of rain will bring "some relief" to Long Island, Pollina said, as Nassau County and western Suffolk are considered "abnormally dry" by the U.S. Drought Monitor.

As for temperatures, Friday is expected to be in the lower 50s; Saturday, the upper 40s for much of the Island; with Sunday just slightly cooler, he said.

Rain should clear out by Monday -- an important day for Mets fans, as it's opening day at Citi Field -- with Queens temperatures expected to be in the mid-50s, Pollina said.
