Sunny skies and summery temperatures were expected for Long Island on Friday and through the weekend, forecasters said.

"We'll enjoy another day with plenty of sunshine," News 12 Long Island meteorologist Jerry Manziello said. "Temperatures will remain slightly above normal for this time of year with highs in the mid to upper 80s for most areas. Humidity levels remain in the comfortable range, too."

"The weekend will bring a few changes, which will include slightly warmer temperatures and increased humidity," he said.

"There is also the very slight chance of a hit-or-miss type pop-up shower or storm, mainly for inland areas, for Saturday, but I think most of the area will stay dry as those isolated cells will likely die out as they move across inland areas," Manziello said.

The high temperatures Friday will be near 85, according to the National Weather Service.

It should be slightly warmer Saturday with a high of 86, and rising to a high of near 89 on Sunday, the weather service said.

On the waters, ocean waves were running 2 to 3 feet, and wave on Long Island Sound were about one foot.
