Frost is possible on eastern Long Island -- predominantly in the Pine Barrens -- as "pockets of subfreezing temperatures" are expected into Saturday morning, the National Weather Service said.

"Temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 20s to middle 30s," the weather service said in a special weather statement. "This could lead to the development of frost. Any frost that develops will have an impact on any sensitive crops or vegetation."

The weather service urged residents of eastern Long Island, east of the William Floyd Parkway, to bring sensitive plants indoors or protect them.
