Blustery winds near 50 mph and chilly temperatures will mark Sunday's weather across Long Island and the New York City region, with a freeze warning overnight into Monday.

Blustery winds near 50 mph and chilly temperatures will mark Sunday's weather across Long Island and the New York City region, with a freeze warning overnight into Monday.

High temperatures were forecast to be about 10 degrees colder than average, only reaching the upper 40s on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Wind chills made temperatures feel even colder Sunday morning, recorded in the low 30s. Wind chill averages Monday morning are expected to dip into the 20s.

The wind advisory will remain in effect until 6 p.m. for Long Island.

Gusts were reported across the region topping 40 mph, with gusts at Kennedy Airport around 49 mph. The highest wind was 54 mph in Westchester County. The howling wind could increase across Long Island and the city throughout the day Sunday, forecasters said.

Overnight temperatures may drop into the low 30s into Monday morning. A frost advisory was issued until about 8 a.m. Monday.

Temperatures should warm slightly through the week, with highs expected in the upper 50s to low 60s. Rain could return to Long Island on Thursday.
