Long Island is facing three days of high heat and humidity before relief arrives near week's end, forecasters said.

A heat advisory was issued for the entire New York City area, including Long Island, beginning at 11 a.m. Monday and continuing through Wednesday evening. Temperatures are expected in the mid-90s under sunny skies Monday, with humidity that brings heat indexes straddling 100, according to the National Weather Service. Nighttime temperatures are expected in the 70s.

Tuesday and Wednesday are forecast to be the same, again under clear skies.

The heat advisory included this warning: "Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk. Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures. Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning."

A cold front is expected to approach the area Wednesday night, bringing possible thunderstorms on Thursday. That would clear the way for a seasonally moderate weekend, with temperatures in the 80s and lower humidity, the weather service reported.
