Heavy rain forecast Friday on Long Island
While there is always the consolation of having the long Memorial Day weekend off from work -- can you see where we're going here? -- don't count on three days of fun in the sun.
Indeed, Saturday and Sunday might be good days for shopping the sales, cleaning the garage or scrubbing the barbecue -- indoors.Saturday is forecast, Islandwide, to be rainy and windy, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s, said Joey Picca, National Weather Service meteorologist based in Upton.
Look for similar conditions Sunday, only minus the rain as of afternoon - still "not a pleasant day," he said. Northwest winds could gust as high as 40 mph on Saturday and 30 to 35 mph on Sunday, he said.
Then comes Memorial Day, the bikers', barbecue-ers' and beach-goers' salvation.
Look for Monday's temperature to warm up to the mid-60s, he said, as well as mostly clear skies and winds that are "calming down."
