A high rip current risk is in effect for Long Island ocean beaches from Wednesday morning through evening, the National Weather Service said.

Surf height of about 3 feet is expected, the weather service said in a statement Wednesday morning, with lightning risk moderate.

On Tuesday night, there's a 40 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms -- some of which could produce heavy rainfall, the service said. There's a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mostly after 10 a.m. Wednesday, forecasters said.
