Long Island forecast: Expect sunny, breezy conditions Monday

It’s a sunny and breezy start to Long Island’s workweek, the National Weather Service said.
Monday’s daily high temperatures across Nassau and Suffolk counties are in the low 60s, with north winds from 16 to 20 mph.
Gusts could reach as high as 31 mph, the service’s Upton office said.
“We’re looking at a sunny and windy day,” News 12 Long Island meteorologist Matt Hammer said. “Thankfully what was left of Hurricane Matthew is long gone, and we are actually setting the stage for what’s going to be an overall gorgeous stretch of weather.”
Conditions for much of the week include daily highs in the upper 60s and low 70s with plenty of sunshine, the weather service said.
Hammer said most of Monday is clear and cool, slightly below the normal for this time of year, around 65 degrees.
Overnight lows are in the 40s — and even colder in the pine barrens — with winds subsiding.
Hammer said “it will be downright cold near the pine barrens with lows around the mid 30s.”
Tuesday will open with mostly sunny skies and daily highs again reaching into the low 60s, he said.
